What is Open the Book?

Its a project created by the bible society which brings the major stories of the bible to primary school children.

Who leads it?

A team of Christian volunteers from local churches.

Where does it take place?

We go into local primary schools - here in Launceston we go into Windmill School and St Stephens School to lead the local assemblies.

When does it happen?

Every Thursday the volunteers visit the local schools to lead the assemblies for the foundation year, year 1 and year 2 classes.  It is a three-year rolling programme with an additional, but optional year of material based on Christian Values.

We have a great time with the children, telling stories, singing songs and praying. They love the chance to get up and get involved in the assembly. We try and encourage them to think about what the bible and God means for them and help them learn to pray.

Why do we do it?

We are Christians who want to share the knowledge and love of God to everyone. We are asked by God to share that love with children. We are excited to share that in our local community through the bible.

But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Luke 18 V16 NIV
